A 1-minute guide to Toccer
Here is the one-minute guide to the sport of Tennis Polo. (The name Toccer and Tennis Polo are used interchangeably if you hadn’t noticed already)
- The object of Tennis Polo (Toccer) is for one team to score more goals than the other team before time runs out. Each team has ten players, nine are field players and one is the racket keeper.
- Goals are scored when the ball is thrown or kicked into the goal past the goal line, which is defended by a racket keeper (goalkeeper) who is the only player on their respective team to have a racket.
- There are two semi-circular lines extending from the back of the goal line. One has a radius of 11 yards (the layer) and the other, 17 yards (2-pt line). Players from the other team can never cross the layer of the opposing team. If they do, goals are nullified and possession goes to the defensive team. If an offensive player attempts a shot (throwing the ball or kicking it) from outside the 2 point line and it goes in, their team is awarded two points rather than the standard one for a goal.
- Offside in toccer is different than other sports. Basically, if your team doesn’t have the ball, you can’t be on the other team’s end of the field further than their last defender not including the racketkeeper.
- The goalkeeper can’t leave the layer with their racquet, but can be 1) replaced at any time and 2) can leave if they leave their racket behind in an empty net situation.
- Games are usually broken into two equal halves of time. Tournament matches are about 40 minutes total (two 20-minute halves with a 10 minute break in-between) but you can feel free to shorten the games at your own discretion for localized play, because some of the best games we’ve seen are of the 7-minute variety.
- If you’re cramped for space, splitting teams in half and playing half-field games are totally appropriate.
That’s basically it. Penalties aren’t called in games without referees. Those games are played by captain’s rules, so the two teams just need to mete out their own differences. We’ll be publishing the official infractions with the rules text, along with the power-play procedures (15, 30, 40 second freeze penalties).
